Q and A with Super Squadra’s New Rider

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

I’ve never been a fan of odd numbers.  I’m not really sure why but odd numbers have always bothered me.  When our team gets together to go on a ride we always have one guy all alone with no one to talk too. To remedy this problem the team decided it was time to even things up. We are proud to say that Super Squadra has added a new member to our team, Chad Haga.

You can check out Chad’s bio page, here

Below is a question and answer with Super Squadra’s newest member, Chad Haga.

Q: So the million dollar question is how did you get on Super Squadra?

A: Apparently it was my performance at Fayetteville last year, where I was in the break with you [Steven], that put me on the radar. Then a few weeks ago, you sent me an e-mail and asked that I call. I called, you called back, and we decided that my goals and current situation fall in line with the team’s purpose. So here I am!

Q: What was your impression of the team before they contacted you?

A: Racing unattached for so long, I had to be alert for which moves to follow and who to watch for. Something I learned early on is that any move with a Super Squadra rider is a dangerous move. They are definitely one of the more dominant teams in our racing scene.

Q: Thanks, I’m blushing. Do you know any of the riders on the team?

A: I could pick them out of the peloton, but beyond that I really only know Alan. I lost many sprints to him on the track this summer.

Q: What are you looking forward to about being a member of Super Squadra?

A: I’m excited to race on a team with so many riders capable of winning, and learning from them along the way.

Q: For others that don’t know you give us a description of yourself  and what kind of rider you are?

A: Well I’m 6’ 3” and a lanky 165 lbs. I seem to be a breakaway rider for the most part, but I love climbing as well–too bad we’re in a region without mountains.

Q: At 6′ 3″  you will overtake Phil as the tallest Super Squadra member? You excited about that?

A: Of course! That is, unless Phil will resent me for my height, in which case I’ll console him with tales of how miserable it is way up here. But secretly I will cherish the title.

Q: What are your favorite Texas races?

A: I’m a sucker for the suffer-fests….Tunis-Roubaix, Walburg, etc. If it’s a race that people love to hate, I’m there.

Q: What are your main objectives for next year?

A: Collegiate Road Nationals first and foremost. Aside from that, I haven’t yet decided. I’m planning a stint in Belgium next summer as well that I’m really looking forward to!

Q: Speaking of Collegiate Nationals, as an Aggie, how do you feel about being on a team based out of Austin with two Longhorn alums and one current Longhorn?

A: If they get too uppity I’ll just turn my Aggie ring around and whack ‘em on the head.  It keeps my roommate in check.

Q: Do you have a personal style you roll with on the bike?

A: Tall black socks! In crits I like to wear my go-fast socks. Sure, they’re strikingly similar to Old Navy’s argyle business socks, but you shouldn’t worry about that.

Q: And finally, Cowboys or Steelers?

A: Back before fatigue failure, fracture mechanics, and feedback control took over my life I was a Cowboys fan. Maybe someday I’ll have time to watch a game.
