Shane Haga

Shane Haga first discovered the world of competitive cycling while spectating a mountain bike race of his older brother, Chad, a former Super Squadra member who is now riding professionally for Kelly Benefits Strategies. Shortly after Chad’s race, Shane took up mountain biking himself, learning to get faster by trying to keep up with his older brother. Before long, Shane started participating in the DORBA fall mountain bike races.

In high school Shane took up an interest in road bikes as a way to train for mountain biking. But after his first Tuesday night criterium, his interest in road racing increased. Throughout high school he struggled to balance his passion for baseball and cycling; eventually cycling prevailed. During his senior year, Shane started a cycling club at his school and participated in the Texas High School Cycling League, which proved good training for TXBRA racing.
After enrolling at Texas A&M University, Shane catapulted from Cat 4 to Cat 2, and earned his Cat 1 upgrade early in his sophomore year. During the summers, Shane undergoes extensive heat training as a self-employed lawn care professional. He is currently studying turf management at Texas A&M, for whom he races collegiately.
