Since winning a timed mile in his seventh grade gym class—run on a gravel road to the bus barn and back—Ian Dille has been a dedicated endurance athlete. A varsity cross-country runner in high school, Ian discovered bicycle racing during his freshman year at The University of Texas-Austin.
Ian raced with the UT Cycling Team and competed on the elite national level during his summers off. While working toward a degree in journalism, Ian became a two-time collegiate cycling All-American and earned a spot on the Under-23 National Team in 2001. After graduating, Ian pursued racing full-time and succeeded in signing a professional contract with the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Brewery cycling team in 2005.
Eventually, injury and adulthood conspired to end Ian’s pro-cycling career, prompting him to put his journalism degree to use. He currently works as a freelance journalist and is a contributing writer for Bicycling magazine.
